The Abduction of Persephone (Apples and Snakes)

height 22"  approx. cir. 30"  Mid-fire clay  underglaze  glaze

Views

Persephone was the beautiful daughter of Zeus and Demeter. The good parents hid her to keep her safe, but Hades, god of the underworld, discovered her. Hades then abducted her to the underworld and made her his wife.

Symbolism: in this piece the snakes represent an eternity of imprisonment from every angle. The apples represent a creative self. Collectively this is a piece about society ravaging creative energies.
