Eros loved a beautiful maiden named Psyche. Since Eros was immortal he forbade Psyche to look at him. Overcome with curiosity one night Psyche took a lamp to bed and gazed at the sleeping Eros. She woke him accidentally and Eros flew away. Psyche went in search of her lover without success, she ended up at the palace of Aphrodite. Aphrodite enslaved her and set her to impossible tasks. Finally she was discovered by Eros who took her to Olympus. There they were reunited and their marriage was celebrated by the gods.

This sculptures signifies the intoxicating danger of forbidden love. Reunification triumphs over all obstacles. An unlikely coupling consummated by love.

Symbolism: the cherry birch signifies the birth of new life. The Rhododendron symbolizes caution and dangerous love.
